Broken wires on the electromagnetic motor of the F-35 aircraft is a problem that negatively impacts the production line. Each broken wire defect is equivalent to a loss of $6,000. The major causes of these broken cables are motor handling, hardened resin, and lack of protection. Several processes were studied to capture opportunities to reduce or eliminate the broken wire defect. It was found that by implementing retainers to improve handling, industrial-grade oil to prevent resin lodging, and some type of tape to protect the cables, a reduction of this defect was possible.
