Identificación de Zonas Idóneas para el Cultivo de Cacao en Puerto Rico Utilizando la Tecnología Geoespacial
Abstract
The Objective of the present work was
to establish geographic features that will identify
suitable for cocoa cultivation areas in Puerto Rico.
To identify areas where the greatest potential for
growing cacao, was used a spatial analysis tool of
Arc GIS 10.1 software. Previously the necessary
climatic factors (temperature and precipitation)
and soil characteristics, which was to identify the
area to be identified. Through of the interpolation,
reclassification and map algebra tools, we
determined that there are a significant portion of
land, scattered around the island, which have the
potential to revive agriculture and the overall
economy through the reestablishment of the crop
cocoa in Puerto Rico.
